Project Details

MET have been chosen to develop this important international travelling exhibition exploring the role North Africans played in the First World War, entitled Forgotten Heroes: North Africans and the Great War, 1914 – 1919.

The exhibition is due to open in 2016 when funding is secured, and it is scheduled to visit 17 cities in Europe, North America, the Middle East and North Africa before concluding in 2020. As many as 45,000 Arab and Berber were killed and many more were wounded in some of the bloodiest engagements on the Western Front.

The exhibition’s aim is to "shed light" on this largely unknown story and restore pride and honour to the nations and families involved, whilst gaining the recognition the story deserves across the western world.
