Grand opening of Museum MACAN in Jakarta

Our chairman Alex McCuaig, here pictured with founder Haryanto Adikoesoemo, was delighted to attend the grand opening of MET’s latest project opening for Museum MACAN, Indonesia’s first contemporary art museum.

The Museum currently contains 90 artworks by over 70 artists within the specially designed exhibition space of 2,000 square meters. MET also designed the retail space and the cafe.

Alex McCuaig commented at the opening – “In 1794, ‘Tiger Tiger burning bright in the forests of the night’ was the first line of a celebrated poem by William Blake, and I have never forgotten the beauty and almost fearsome power of the poem that captured my imagination as a young boy. Now in 2017, we see the opening in Jakarta of a new modern and contemporary art museum inspired by Mr. Haryanto Adikoesoemo called MACAN, which means ‘tiger’ in Indonesian. This Tiger also has a beauty and fearsome power that will shine a beacon of light across Asia and the world for its bold fusion of cultures and contemporary art. As the designers, MET Studio, and I, as its now older chairman, are privileged to have been part of its creation.”
