For
one of America’s oldest and most prestigious
museums, MET Studio Design was the first ever outside
consultancy commissioned for a project of this scope
and value - the museum’s largest undertaking
in a decade. The designers were tasked with transforming
an unpromising space - a former basement workshop
area with low ceilings and an adjacent entrance/exit
- into a robust and permanent exhibition on the
subject of soil for an audience of 8-80 year olds.
By showing the incredible diversity of life in the
soil and the importance of our connections to it,
the exhibition offers a totally immersive, dynamic,
entertaining and accessible experience on the most
profoundly unglamorous of subjects.
