Studio were commissioned by Hull City Council in
1998 to create the exhibition masterplan and concept
design for The Deep, the city's Millennium Project.
At the core of the building and the visitor experience
is a 9.0m deep tank that acts as the focus for the
galleries
arranged around it. The visit begins at the top
of the building and descends through Corall Atoll,
Pacific, North Sea and Antarctic galleries before
reaching the Research Station at the bottom. The
commission was completed in July 1999 at which point
it was handed over to exhibition designers Csaky
Associates for implementation of the exhibition
design phase.
